Day 68 well Donny, im trying to figure out this font thing, as you can see from yesterday im not that good with these computers, but practice makes perfect.
Well I have made a new friend on face book that ive been getting to know the last few days and she is teaching me quite a bit, I truly believe that her wisdom and strength will be a big part of my growth as our friendship grows, as I read her message today I realized there was two major things in my life that deserve focus, getting rid of the cigarettes, and having more pride in myself, she didn't come right out and say that, but she was talking about quitting smoking and caring about yourself, and I realized that I don't take enough time to take proper care of myself. Im not talking about health wise, im talking about personal hygiene, you see ive been on drugs a very long time and never really cared about impressing anyone, growing up I never had anyone teach me about personal hygiene. I don't really know anything about it, im not saying I don't shower, I do, but all I ever buy is a bottle of dollar shampoo, and that's it. Ive never used shaving cream or bar soap, deotorant, or man perfume. I wouldn't know where to start, but I would like to improve myself and this would be a good place to start, ive already cut my hair so short it always looks neat, but there's much more to work on, where do you go to learn this stuff. If you are wandering if I am embarrassed to talk about this stuff, yes I am but how else am I going to learn, it seems a lot of us are embarrassed about things and we don't ask about them out of fear of what other people may think, well I am here to set the example so I am overlooking that fear and asking for answers so I can overcome yet another problem in my life, there is no happiness in living in fear and unsolved problems, so I will rid my life of both. As for smoking I have to thank my new friend for inspiring me to quit, I have swept that thought under the carpet months ago and now it is back, I will keep that thought in the front of my mind, James
Hey you will get it....! just like everything else!!!
ReplyDeletejames-ive been out of town for the weekend without a computer so just got back and seeing everything youve written has been so good for me-the childhood stuff-the foster home stuff-the how much you care about your daughter and what she wrote back and then in this post the fear of exposing yourself to ridicule about the personal hygiene-my daughter told me something similar to that the other day-what can i say to you except WOW-you can only come to grips with who you are by studying the past-not wallowing in it-not repeating -the same stupid crap but truly trying to make each day the best you can-take care-hope you have a great week at work-cynthia
ReplyDeleteJust buy the items and you will learn how to use them. You must have an electric razor or something; otherwise you'd have a long beard & mustache. I once had a boyfriend from Denmark and I had to buy him some deodorant and tell him how to use it, because his underarms really reaked. (When I explained to him about people in America using deodorant, he asked me to buy it for him.) Bar soap is good, or you can use body wash in the shower and use a washcloth & really scrub away. There are a lot of good shampoos for your hair that might be better than the dollar stuff. If you use an electric razor you don't need shaving cream. However, if you shave by hand, then you need shaving cream. I always get my husband the Gillette foamy as he shaves with a regular razor. Then when you're finished shaving, rinsing, and drying your face, it's nice to put a man's after shave lotion on. There's a huge variety of them. My husband still likes Old Spice After Shave Lotion the best. He pours a little in one hand, rubs it between both hands and puts it all over his face. My husband always sprays Right Guard spray deodorant on after he's showered and dried himself. Be careful with all this stuff, as the ladies will be chasing you all over town if you smell too nice! (ha!ha!)
ReplyDeleteIf you need help quitting smoking there's Nicorette gum (can buy it cheapest at Costco, but I imagine there's a Walmart nearby and it's probably cheaper there too.) My husband had to quit smoking cold turkey three years ago because he found out he had emphysema, which is fatal if you keep on smoking with it. But the doctor thought he had a heart murmur so when I went to buy the Nicorette gum at Costco, it said on the back not to use it if you had a heart murmur. But he has been off cigarettes for three years now, and I am so thankful, as I hated that darn cigarette smoke and the nasty smell it left on everything.
Your friend John there can probably educate you about all the hygiene stuff, but I'm just sharing what I know. I think it's great that you're not afraid to share any of this information, as people can offer their help this way, though I don't know if I've helped at all, being a woman. Take care, Jim Glad you're feeling a lot better than a few days ago.
Jim, I think Nancy covered most of what you needed to know about hygiene! As for quitting your cigarette addiction, you can get over the physical addiction in as little as 72 hours, or at most a week. The hard part, which you already know a lot about, is the psychological addiction. There are several good How To Stop Smoking videos on You Tube. Check them out. I'm sure you'll get some good ideas.
